The big question: "Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?"
"Cheap Grace!" - Romans 5:20-21
The demonstration of the power of the gospel (or evidence) is a changed heart and changed life!
If sin is a serious problem in our lives, then we have one of two problems:
1) incomplete gospel
2) "cheap grace"
HOW is the power of sin broken in our lives?
"baptized into Christ Jesus... baptized into His death"
"we were buried with Him through baptism into death"
"we have been united together in the likeness of His death"
"we also shall be united with Him in the likeness of His resurrection"
"our old man was crucified with Him"
I am crucified with Christ!
What does it mean that I have been crucified with Christ?
I was with Him! My sin was crucified, put to death, with Him!!!
When He was raised again from the dead, completely victorious over sin and death, I was with Him!!!
Baptism - What happens when you are baptized?
"baptized into His death"
Baptism speaks of believing in and accepting, identifying with, entering into, joining with, BEING WITH Christ in suffering and death and resurrection!
Through baptism we are being united with Him!
When you are baptized, what do you do? -
Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?" - Why not?
1-Because the power of sin has been broken from my life!
2-Because we have a choice!
Crucified with Christ: What do I do about it?
1-Reckon yourself to be dead to sin but alive to God! - It is a realization!
2-Don't let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey its lusts - It is a free choice!
3-Don't present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin - It is a decision!
4-Present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead - It is worship!
5-Present your members as instruments of righteousness to God - It is discipline!
