Romans: The Starting Line of the Gospel!

Nathan Droege

The US Supreme's Court's ruling on same sex marriage -

ACF Value #7 - The Family: "We believe God places high value on the family, and that the family is the primary building block of the church and of society. We believe the family begins with a marriage, designed by God, between one man and one woman; and that God gave the family as the primary setting for raising children and teaching spiritual values. We believe the local church is meant to be a larger "spiritual family."

Romans 2:1-29; 3:1-20 -  a "divided" audience of Jews and Gentiles (Greeks)

Romans 1 - the sin of the Gentiles: They rejected God!

Romans 2 - the sin of the Jews -

Romans 12:1, "Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge, for in whatever you judge another you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things."

Two mistakes, that we still make today:

1) Judging others for their sin; but at the same time practicing the same sin

When we are judging other people, we are comparing ourselves to others, and we are justifying ourselves!

"Do not be judged, and you will not be judged."

2) The Jews were -
-The Gentiles were -

Jews and Gentile had a common problem: they were sinners, and had distanced themselves from God

The Results?

1:18) "for the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness."

2:8-9) "but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness--indignation and wrath, tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek."

Whether you are a Jew or a Gentile, you face a similar problem:  your sin and God's wrath and judgment!"

The starting line for both Jew and Gentile - Romans 3:9-20.

ALL are sinners! ALL are facing wrath and judgment! NO ONE will be justified by the deeds of the law!!

-Romans 3:21-22 - some simple lessons:

" But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe."

1) Don't compare yourself with any other person!

2) Don't try to justify yourself!

3) Don't judge others, especially for what you lack!

4) Accept that your are sinful and have no way to fix it!

5) Give up tying to justify yourself and trust in Jesus Christ and His righteousness!
